Observation Narrative
Low salt marsh dominated by the "short form" of Spartina alterniflora and Distichlis spicata, with locally abundant patches of more halophytic species such as Limonium carolinianum and Salicornia bigelovii. It is uncertain whether the prevailing halinity is mesohaline or polyhaline. Plot is located near the southern terminus of this stand. To the south the vegetation grades into nearly pure Spartina alterniflora and Distichlis, with a narrow fringe of relatively tall Spartina patens before Phragmites assumes complete dominance across the width of the point. Numerous patches of open water occur in vicinity of plot. Water depth ca. 1 cm at 4:40 PM.
